This mural is particularly special because it’s a painting of Annelise, our first-born. Elle has been through a lot this year: this summer we moved to a new home, and Elle started a new school within the same week. This spring, Elle developed severe bacterial pneumonia while we were abroad and was hospitalized in the Dominican Republic for a number of nights – an experience that left us all pretty traumatized.
Change, illness, uncertainty are inevitable, but you try to protect your kids from the weight of the world for as long as possible. You just want to hold on to those moments at the park, pushing them on the swing, watching them experience the weightlessness of utter joy. 🦋
